The Parents Council represents all parents and acts as a liaison to the college and its administrators. The council serves to guide members toward increased understanding, support and enthusiasm for Agnes Scott and provides a vehicle for improved communication between parents and the college. Parents are a valuable resource for Agnes Scott, and we hope to provide mutually beneficial ways for you to be involved and contribute. The council is composed of 32 families and acts as resources in the areas of new-student recruitment, parent communication, student life, career planning and the parents fund.
Enrollment Committee
This committee works closely with the office of admission to assist in the college’s recruitment efforts. Throughout the year, members contact accepted and enrolled students and their families and provide support for prospective student-recruitment activities, such as college fairs and regional receptions.
Parent-Relations Committee
This committee advises the college on effective communication with parents, which is important to Agnes Scott. Committee members make recommendations on publications and forms of communication and in areas such as the Web site, Parents Handbook and parent listserv.
Student-Life Committee
This committee provides parental leadership, support and perspective in the areas of student life, athletics and residential life. Committee members advise on parent participation during orientation and in other campus programming.
Career-Planning Committee
This committee works to provide opportunities for parents to contribute to the career-planning process for all students. Parents can be involved in many ways such as acting as career-networking contacts, providing advice to students as they pursue employment opportunities and leveraging contacts for job opportunities, internships, career observation days and graduate school.
Parents Fund
This committee supports the annual fund, which raises critical, unrestricted dollars from alumnae, parents, friends, corporations and foundations to support student scholarships, faculty salaries, the library, athletics programs and other important areas of the college. Each year, the parents fund committee assists the annual fund staff in writing letters and making phone calls to current and former parents.
