Fall Orientation for Parents

Sending your daughter off to college isn't easy. For many of you, this will be the first time she has ever been away from home. We understand you have questions and concerns and we want to make sure you feel comfortable in her choosing to continue her education with us. With more than 100 years of helping shape women leaders, we want to help her find her voice and make her mark.

The following information answers some frequently asked questions and we encourage you to contact the dean of students office at 404 471-6391 with any additional questions.

Welcome from Lee Ann Afton, dean of admission

Dear Parents,

It has been a pleasure to work with you and your family throughout the admission process during this record-setting admission year. Your daughter was selected among the most competitive applicant pool in the college's history and we know you are proud of her many accomplishments. Regardless of whether your daughter applied to one college or 10, we are delighted her search led her to Agnes Scott. It takes a great deal of thought and time to find the college that best meets her interests, and now that the match is made, your daughter will reap the rewards of joining a thriving academic community.

Orientation and the arrival of our new students is always an exciting time during which the campus comes alive with the energy of a new academic year. My staff and I have enjoyed the relationships we have developed with you and are eager to see you in August.

Sincerely,

Lee Ann Afton
Dean of Admission

How do parents participate in orientation?
Orientation gives new students, along with parents and families, the occasion to become acquainted with College resources, traditions, campus facilities and opportunities while making new friends and exploring Decatur and the Atlanta area. Besides assisting one's new student to relocate, there are multiple opportunities where parents may ask questions, become better acquainted with college policies and meet faculty and staff.

Some activities include Breakfast with the President, informative panels, meetings with your daughter's advisor and ASC 101 leaders, Campus Services Fair, Academic Department Fair, Campus Tours and the Welcome to Decatur Gathering. Parents and families are also invited to attend the important Honor Court Reception and Pledge Signing when all first-year students affirm their promise to uphold Agnes Scott's Honor Code by signing the Pledge
