The Agnes Solution

If you are a Georgia HOPE Scholar accepted as a first-year student starting in fall 2010 at Agnes Scott College, The Agnes Solution guarantees you $65,000 over the next four years. The Agnes Solution offers you:

The Agnes Solution grant $15,500
Georgia HOPE & Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG)* $ 4,500
Total per year $20,000

* Estimated for 2010-2011; exact amount subject to approval by the Georgia Legislature

Plus:

  • A $3,000 Agnes Advantage Award you can use for study abroad, internships or mentored research once you’ve completed your sophomore year
  • A FREE ZipCar membership so you can be part of Agnes Scott’s commitment to sustainability

That’s $65,000 in merit aid from Agnes Scott, guaranteed—with HOPE and TEG, that’s a total of $83,000 over four years! And you may be eligible for additional need- or merit-based aid.

How do I become eligible for a HOPE Scholarship?
If you are a Georgia resident enrolled in a degree program at a public or private college or university in Georgia, you may be eligible for a HOPE Scholarship. High school students in a college preparatory program must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in specific courses required for college admission. All credits attempted in English, mathematics, science, social studies and foreign language (college prep only) are included in the GPA calculation. No other courses are considered, so your cumulative high school GPA may be different from your “HOPE GPA.”

All GPA calculations are processed by the Georgia Student Finance Commission. High schools submit complete academic transcripts of graduating students to the HOPE program in June, and the GSFC calculates students’ academic eligibility for HOPE. More information about the HOPE program, including details on how the GPA is calculated, may be found at www.GAcollege411.org.

Do I have to submit a separate application for The Agnes Solution?
If you are a Georgia resident who has been accepted for admission to Agnes Scott, you must complete the electronic GSFAPPS application, Georgia’s online application for most grants and scholarships administered by the GSFC. The GSFAPPS form also serves as the application form for the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG).

When will I be notified of The Agnes Solution and HOPE?
Agnes Scott receives a preliminary list of HOPE-eligible high school students from GSFC in February. We use this list to identify admitted applicants who are eligible for The Agnes Solution and notify them that they are eligible for this award. If you are eligible for other merit- or need-based financial aid, you will receive your complete financial-aid package in a separate mailing.

Your final eligibility for HOPE is determined after high school graduation. Beginning in July after graduation, you may log into your account on the GAcollege411 Web site to check your official HOPE status.

What happens if I become ineligible for HOPE?
HOPE Scholarships require a cumulative 3.0 GPA at specific checkpoints. If your name appeared on the preliminary list of HOPE scholars in February but does not appear on the final list of HOPE-eligible students after graduation, the college will honor The Agnes Solution commitment of $15,500 for your first year and will review your eligibility for your sophomore year in the spring. However, the college does not replace the HOPE Scholarship funds if a student fails to remain eligible.

If you begin your studies at Agnes Scott as a HOPE Scholar and later lose your eligibility, you will retain the $15,500 annual merit award for a maximum of four years as long as you maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA. The college does not replace HOPE funds if a student fails to maintain eligibility.
