In the Agnes Scott dance program, you’ll not only gain physical enjoyment from the mastery of dance technique and creative expression, but also a scholarly understanding of dance’s historical legacy and sociological impact. Whether it’s ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap or cultural dance forms, the dance program offers a well-rounded, creative and critical approach to dance through technique, terminology and history.
Perform Historic and Contemporary Works
Dance students have the opportunity to join Studio Dance Theatre, the college’s student ensemble. Student dancers have performed the works of pioneers such as Helen Tamiris, Charles Weidman, Doris Humphrey, Marius Petipa and Ruth St. Denis, as well as guest artists such as Jack Clark, Elizabeth Higgins, Randy James, Royce Zackery, Mary Seidman and Leymis Bolanos. The diversity of formats allows students to showcase their versatility through classical and revolutionary movements.
Gain Practical Experience
The Decatur School of Ballet provides paid and unpaid internships to dance majors. These internships include assistant teaching, office work and studio supervision.
