Opening Young Minds to How the World Works
For high school students, physics can be one of the most demanding areas of science studies. A teacher well trained in both the principles of physics and the dynamics of learning can illuminate the understanding of this frequently challenging subject.
Our master of arts in teaching secondary physics is specifically designed to achieve that goal. This program features a combination of sciences and education courses, supplemented by elective courses relevant to an individual’s particular interests. Education courses address such vital topics as curriculum development and diverse-learning aptitudes. Field experience includes educational seminars, a 12-week supervised teaching assignment and access to the faculty and resources of the Fernbank Science Center, part of Atlanta’s DeKalb County School System. Located just minutes from campus, the Fernbank Science Center is the only teaching institution of its kind affiliated with a public school system.
The M.A.T. secondary physics program is open to men and women with an undergraduate major in general physics or related subfield of study (astrophysics, biophysics, geophysics, mathematical physics, etc.) without teacher certification.
