A Creative Program of Language,
Literature and Learning
Reflecting the rich traditions of Agnes Scott College, our M.A.T. secondary English program underscores our commitment to the values of a liberal arts education by preparing teachers to inspire young minds with the love of language and literature.
Established in 1992, this program, open to both men and women, leads to a master’s degree in English with certification to teach English at the high school level. It features an engaging and challenging three-semester curriculum of literature, language and education courses. Program enhancements include graduate seminars, writing workshops and supervised teaching internships at area high schools. In keeping with the college’s mission, the M.A.T. secondary English program supports an emphasis on gender equity. And in an ideal setting for learning, students enjoy small classes with personalized attention from professors.
Candidates for our M.A.T. secondary English program include individuals with either an undergraduate degree or significant study in English without teacher certification. Just as importantly, candidates possess a passion for their area of study, for nurturing intellectual development and for academic excellence.
