Teaching and Scholarly Interests:
Professor Bender's research concentration is social and women's history in medieval Europe, particularly marriage patterns among artisans in fifteenth-century Florence. She has taught courses in medieval history, world history to 1500, and the history of Britain to the 17th century.
Professional Activities:
A Fullbright Fellow to Italy in 2007-08, Professor Bender is a member of the American Historical Association, the Medieval Academy of America, the Renaissance Society of America, and the Society for Medieval Feminist Scholarship. She has published entries on "Kinship" in The Encyclopedia of Women in World History (Oxford University Press, 2008), and "The Middle Ages" in The Encyclopedia of Sex and Gender (Thomson Gale, 2007).
