Welcome, International Baccalaureate Diploma Students
Agnes Scott College offers a community and a curriculum that is especially well-suited to graduates of International Baccalaureate programs. Our mission statement—"Agnes Scott College educates women to think deeply, live honorably, and engage the social and intellectual challenges of their times"—crystallizes our commitment to an intellectually challenging curriculum and preparation for a life of engaged citizenship.
Agnes Scott is committed to educating women who achieve in their professions and contribute to their communities. Our students, who come from 45 states or U.S. territories and 27 countries, thrive in an academic and intellectual atmosphere that includes student-faculty research, independent studies and student-designed majors. Our talented faculty (all of our tenure-track faculty hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in their fields) are active teacher-scholars who work closely with their students both inside and outside the classroom.
At Agnes Scott, you will meet faculty eager to meet with you during their office hours, discuss your academic and career interests, and help expand your horizons as you explore experiential learning opportunities, from student-faculty research and internships to and study abroad.
You will have a rich array of academic programs to choose from, including 33 majors and 31 minors and dual-degree programs in engineering (with Georgia Institute of Technology) and nursing (with Emory University). You can also take courses at 19 other colleges and universities in metropolitan Atlanta at no extra charge through the Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education cross-registration program.
Global awareness and global education are central to the Agnes Scott College mission. This is reflected in our curriculum, which offers seven languages and asks all students to attain intermediate proficiency in a language other than English (which you may have already attained through your IB coursework or because of fluency in a native language). It is also reflected in our majors and minors, which include International Relations, Africana Studies, Asian Studies, and Human Rights; and in our Study Abroad programs, which offers students opportunities to live and study in nearly every corner of the world.
