Baccalaureate Origins refer to the tracking of the baccalaureate degree-granting institutions whose graduates earn a Ph.D.
Baccalaureate Origin rankings are based on the percentage of Agnes Scott graduates who go on to earn their Ph.D. Data have been gathered from the Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED), administered to all recipients of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the United States by several agencies and asks from which institution their bachelor's degree originated.
Based on the data provided, five overlapping time periods were determined (the years 1972 to 1981, 1977 to 1986, 1982 to 1991, 1987 to 1996 and 1992 to 2001) for which ranks would be calculated. Because of the time necessary to earn a Ph.D., the number of degrees conferred by Agnes Scott each year were added in similar nine-year time periods that begin five years prior to the time periods listed above.
