Hermine Kalutsyan


Kalutsyan was the first woman to receive a Ph.D. in mathematics in Turkey. She completed her thesis on "Représentation conforme et mouvement d'un plan sur un plan" at the University of Turkey in 1941 under the supervision of Richard von Mises and William Prager. According to Eden and Irzik, "she studied mathematics at Ecole Normale Superieure between 1932 and 1936. After receiving her Ph.D. she taught at Galatasaray High school and served as the headmistress of Esayan high school in Istanbul between 1948 and 1973. In 1975 she moved to France."
